KHS and KMS students prepare for science fair season

Keokuk High School and Keokuk Middle School students will be showcasing their Science Research projects at KMS in the library on Feb. 22 as they prepare for the upcoming competitive season for science fairs.

The science fair will feature 10 middle school projects from 16 students and 15 high school projects from 16 students. Judging will commence from 4:15-6 p.m. on Feb. 22, then the event will open to the public at 6 p.m. and awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m. Following will be a brief parent meeting.

“Competing in science fairs is more than showing judges the cool thing that was researched,” Schiller said. “Science research competitions help students work on their observation, science, writing and speaking skills as they put in the time and practice to perfect their verbal and visual presentation skills for each competition.”

The KMS and KHS students will participate in additional Science Competitions, which include:

  • Feb. 24 at the Culver-Stockton Science Fair
  • March 7 at the Southeastern Community College Science Fair
  • March 16 at the Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair
  • April 4-5 at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa
