Keokuk School Board approves 2024-25 Calendar

The Keokuk School Board approved the proposed 2024-25 calendar at the April 1 meeting. The first day of school will be Friday, Aug. 23, and the five-day school schedule will include a regular Wednesday early release with a Spring Break. The tentative last day of school is set for May 29, 2025.

Also, based on teacher input, the calendar includes a more traditional parent/teacher conference schedule of one evening. The calendar includes additional hours that can be used for make-up days in case of inclement weather.

The change in school times will be: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

  • GW (kindergarten-first grades): 8 a.m.-3:10 p.m.
  • Hawthorne (second-fifth grades): 7:45 a.m.-2:55 p.m.
  • KMS/KHS: 7:50 a.m.-3 p.m.

Wednesdays (early release):

  • GW (kindergarten-first grades): 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Hawthorne (second-fifth grades): 7:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
  • KMS/KHS: 7:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m.

The 2024-25 calendar had been approved at a previous board meeting, but it did not reflect the changes in the start and end times for Hawthorne and George Washington and did not have a confirmed start day, as the legislation had not been voted on to potentially move the allowed start date up. The legislation to allow for an earlier start date did not get approved, so the first day of school has to be on Aug. 23 or after.
