Welcome Back Students!

The halls are waxed, the desks are cleaned, schedules are printed, and the new clothes are bought. This can only mean one thing; the first day of school is near. From the entire staff, the Keokuk Community School District would like to extend a big “Welcome Back” to all of our students and parents/guardians. Students are excited, anxious, and nervous about what the first day and the new year holds. So are many parents. Many young parents may tearfully send their child off for perhaps the first time in an extended leave situation, while parents with older children will ponder how the years from PreK to grade 12 have slipped by so quickly.

Six administrative changes have occurred since the end of the past school year due to retirements and advancement opportunities. All of the new administrators are excited about their leadership circumstances. The district also welcomes numerous new staff to our buildings. Parents, please stop in and meet your child’s educators. We want to be partners in your child’s learning. The KCSD staff is an exceptionally talented group of professional educators that takes great pride in our school system and caring for our young people. Many have spent this summer advancing their own education in an effort to stay on the cutting edge of 21st century learning, and to give our students the best education possible.

Opportunities abound, especially at the secondary level. Team sports, band, choir, drama, speech, science and art clubs, student council, Little Feathers, yearbook, and robotics are among the many opportunities that await. Find time to get involved in one or more of these activities. These activities bring another dimension to career and life skills needed in successful adulthood.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) continues to expand and strengthen within our schools. Respectful, Responsible, Ready students – now and in the future – is our goal. Professional Learning Communities (PLC) will continue to shape the Professional Development of our staff in an effort to close achievement gaps in our district. So, as the 2015-16 school year begins…

We’re glad you’re here. Welcome back!
