The United Way of the Great River Region recently presented the Keokuk Community School District with an $1,100 donation to the principals to cover additional school supplies. United Way gave away an additional $100 to Dawna Daily, the Hawthorne principal, who guessed the correct answer to a trivia question about how many school supplies were given away via the back-to-school backpack giveaway.
The United Way organized the backpack giveaway where the organization donated 615 backpacks full of supplies, like folders, crayons, scissors, pens, paper, glue, and more.
“Next year, our goal is to take that burden off our parents’ plates completely by getting enough supplies for every kid in the district,” Mike Greenslaugh, United Way of the Great River Region executive director, said. “And as we continue to grow, we will add more services to our initiatives.”
