Summer Grab and Go meals

To ensure the students of Keokuk Community Schools continue to receive healthy and nutritious meals during the summer, the  Keokuk Community School District, in partnership with the Salvation Army, through the flexibility from the USDA during the COVID19 health emergency, will provide an opportunity for families to drive thru and pick up grab n’ go meals for the children 18 years and younger in their family, at 7 District locations.

The Summer Meals Program will begin Monday June 1, 2020 through August 7, 2020. As we are transitioning from our previous COVID Emergency Meal Program to our Summer Meals Program, some of the former locations will be closing after May 29th, but 7 locations will still be operating this summer. Meals will be served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. Meals will be served as Grab n’ Go at the following sites and times listed:

Look for servers or the Salvation Army Mobile Meal Canteen at:

  • The Crossing – 610 Timea St 11:10am-11:35am
  • Kilbourne Park – 20th & Bank St. 11:50am-12:10pm
  • Hawkeye Village – Johnson Street Road 12:55pm-1:15pm
  • George Washington Elementary School – 116 North 8th St. (pick up on playground side) 10:30am-11:00am

Meals will be prepared in our school facilities and are overseen by ServSafe Certified Food Service Staff. Approved procedures for meal prep, storage, service, and sanitation will be observed. Weekend bags will be distributed on Fridays along with the Friday meal.

While schools are closed, nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children 18 years and younger regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin. Children are not required to be enrolled in Keokuk Schools to be eligible for this service; even if your child is open enrolled in another district or has not yet started school you may still participate.

This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals, and meals will not be consumed on site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed, continue to wash your hands often, stay at home if you are sick and practice social distancing of 6ft.
