Keokuk Announces Interim Superintendent Selection

The Keokuk School Board is pleased to announce the hire of a new Interim Superintendent position. Formal interviews were conducted with three finalists on Tuesday, July 13th. Each candidate had a district/community tour, interview with the administrative team and interview with the school board.

Based on the feedback and evaluation of his credentials, Dr. Dan Mart was offered the Interim Superintendent position. His recent superintendent experience, leadership leading bond issues, communication style and ability to support school improvement initiatives were a few of the assets he presented and led to the job offer.

Dr. Mart completed a 12 year tenure as the Superintendent of North Polk Schools in Alleman, IA. During his tenure he led PPEL renewal, two revenue purpose statement approvals, and three successful bond referendums. Academically, North Polk was one of the first districts to receive the TLC funding which Dr. Mart and his leadership team spearheaded. Most recently the District renewed its commitment to the PLC process through weekly professional development. His previous experience included serving as the Shared Superintendent for Graettinger and Terril Community Schools from 2004-2009 where he led a successful merger of those districts. Prior, he served the Graettinger District as the 6-12 and K-12 Principal. He began his teaching career at MOC-Floyd Valley CSD where he served as a driver’s education instructor, business education teacher, athletic coach, and two years as the Curriculum/Technology Director.

Dr. Mart was excited to accept the position. He said, “I am excited to work with the Board, Staff, and Community of Keokuk during this upcoming transitional school year. In my short time in Keokuk, the passion and desire for excellence were quite apparent which is a definite draw! ” Dan has three children that attend the North Polk School District. His son Caden will be a junior, son Trenton will be a sophomore, and an 8th grade daughter, Addison.

Dan earned his PhD from Iowa State University in 2011. His dissertation topic was studying the perceived district-level leadership influences upon student achievement. His Certificate in Advanced Studies was also earned from ISU. Dan received his principal endorsement from Buena Vista University. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Teaching from BVU. His Masters of Arts in Teaching from Morningside College.

Dr. Mart will officially begin his contract on July 26th. Please welcome Dan to the district and community.
