In an effort to ease the congestion of the numerous celebrations and tributes to our area veterans on November 11, the Keokuk Community School District selected Tuesday, November 10 to invite and honor the men and women who have served our country and protected our freedoms.
To accommodate as many as possible, this year’s event was held in the newly renovated Wright Fieldhouse. Students in grades 4-12 attended along with the area veterans. The program included musical selections from combined high school and middle school choirs and bands, along with a Missing Man Table ceremony, an explanation of the folding of the US flag, and taps. To close the program, Superintendent Tim Hood read the names of the service members in attendance, including Basil Reed, who received a standing ovation as one of the last area vets that landed on the shores of Normandy. Below are a few of the pictures from the day’s event.
