The Iowa High School Speech Association inducted their 60th and 61st members into the Hall of Fame October 14, 2016 at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. The IHSSA Hall of Fame was conceived in 1976. It is presented to a distinguished individual of statewide reputation and outstanding accomplishments. This is the highest honor the Iowa High School Speech Association may confer on an individual. The contribution and service given by the inductee stem from dedication and commitment to the IHSSA beyond normally expected and superlative identification. This year’s inductees are Elizabeth Hansen, Grinnell and David Wendt, Keokuk.
David Wendt was the long time IHSSA coach and teacher at Keokuk High School. In that time he has been the Large Group and Individual Events coach for over 30 some years. Mr. Wendt has served the IHSSA as a District Officer several times, Contest Manager for both state and district contest, an IHSSA Judge, IE All-State Committee, Special Assistant to the Ex. Director for the IE All-State Festival and other groups to support the mission of the IHSSA. Mr. Wendt has been asked to speak and present at the IHSSA Coaches Convention and many other national conventions and meetings. Under Mr. Wendt direction Keokuk has sent many students to the Large Group All-State Festivals and IE All-State Festivals. He continues to be a certified IHSSA judge, a high school leader for the National Communication Association and a resource for the SE District in the IHSSA.
It is with pleasure that the IHSSA welcomes Elizabeth Hansen and David Wendt into the Iowa High School Speech Association Hall of Fame.
