PreK Family Night Fun

Family Night Photo
Torrence Prekindergarten had their first family night on November 14.  Students and their families were treated to pizza and juice in the Torrence Elementary gym.
The parents were given a report on the success of the students from last year. The students that attended Torrence Pre-Kindergarten that entered Kindergarten at Hawthorne this fall had a head start on those that didn’t according to the DIBELS Next and MAP Assessments.  64.2% of the students that attended Torrence Pre-K scored at or above benchmark on the DIBELS assessment compared to 35.6% of non Torrence Pre-K students.  The fall assessment data also showed that 30.7% of the Torrence Pre-K students scored above the 80th percentile compared to 13.5% of non Torrence students.
Ms. Pihl talked about the importance of literature and reading to your child.  Ms. Ralph read the story “There Was an Old Lady Who was not Afraid of Anything.”  Then the prekindergarten staff performed a skit to the song by the same name.  A large number of involved parents attended to support their student’s learning.  It was a fun filled, exciting evening.
Registration for the 2014-2015 Prekindergarten at Torrence Elementary will begin in March of 2014.
