FAST FACTS

– Eighth grade students will register for classes in early Spring semester. Registration is based on each student’s four-year plans, with additional recommendations from the eighth grade teachers.

– The staff is currently involved in PLC (Professional Learning Communities) training and implementation, as well as ongoing school improvement through the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan submitted to and approved by the Iowa Department of Education.

– KMS students, staff and community members exceeded expectations and raised $2,497.55 to purchase gifts for 48 children in need last holiday season from the annual KMS Angel Tree.

– Starting in sixth grade, students interested in singing can join the KMS Show Choir.

– Starting in seventh grade, students interested can participate in athletics at KMS.

– KMS students have the opportunity to participate in Science Club and compete in regional science fairs.

CIRCULATION POLICIES

  • – Students at George Washington Elementary may check out up to two books at a time, and they may keep those books for two weeks. Students can renew books for longer as well.
  • – Students visit the library weekly with their classes on a rotating schedule. Students may also, per teacher discretion, visit the library in small groups or with a class aide.
  • – There are no late fees; however, students are responsible for damages and/or replacing lost or destroyed books.

HOURS: Mondays: 7:30a.m.-12 p.m./1-3:30 p.m.; Early release hours 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • – Students at Keokuk Senior High School may check out up to five books at a time, and they may keep those books for two weeks. Students can renew books for longer as well.
  • – There is a $0.05 late fee for every day over two weeks a student does not return a book (unless it is renewed, of course) up to a $5.00 maximum charge. Students are responsible for damages and/or replacing lost or destroyed books.
  • – Students visit the library anytime they need to, sometimes with a class and sometimes on their own. Students are welcome anytime during the scheduled library day (7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) unless there are pre-scheduled classes and/or presenters. If the library is closed for any time, there will be an email sent out and/or a posted notice on the door.
  • – There are periodic “amnesty” days for students to turn in books at no extra charge and to avoid late fees. There are also alternate ways for students to repay any fines and fees.

RESERVE SPACE: To reserve the library for your next lesson, class, or project, contact the school librarian. One to two classes take place in the library throughout the day, but the library is a space for all disciplines and accommodations can be made upon request.
