HS To Host Conference Vocal Festival

The SE Iowa Conference Vocal Festival is hosted every year and rotates between the six schools in the conference. It is Keokuk’s turn to host the event this year, which will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:00 PM in Wright Fieldhouse. The conference includes the schools of Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Ottumwa, & Washington.

Each year the students from all six of the schools gather and rehearse together for the day. A guest director and professional soloists/instrumentalists are brought in to lead and accompany the choir. This year Dan Proctor, former Choir Director at Keokuk HS, will be conducting the ensemble. The soloists and instrumentalists are coming to us from all over the area including Burlington, Fort Madison, & Quincy. The 550 students from all six high schools will sing together in the Mass Choir for the main part of the program. Each high school will also sing once piece individually. The program includes works by Carl Orff, Aaron Copland, W.A. Mozart, Gabriel Faure, Z.R. Stroope, & Bob Chilcott.

Admission: Single – $5; Family (2 adults & kids) – $10.
